Arshad Zakaria

CEO
New Vernon Capital

Arshad Zakaria is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of New Vernon Capital, a New Jersey-based hedge fund started in 2004. It has approximately $3 billion under management and focuses on emerging markets, particularly India. Prior to forming New Vernon Capital, Mr. Zakaria was an executive vice president of Merrill Lynch & Co. and president, and later chairman, of its Global Markets and Investment Banking Group. As president of the group, Mr. Zakaria was responsible for investment banking, debt and equity markets, and private equity globally. Previously, he was head of Corporate Risk Management at Merrill Lynch and served on the firm's Executive Management Committee and Operating Committee.

Mr. Zakaria was selected by Crain's New York Business as one of the 100 most influential minority business leaders (April 2003) and was on the magazine's 40 Under 40 business leaders list (January 2002). He is currently on the board of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey and the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.

Mr. Zakaria holds a BA, summa cum laude, in applied mathematics from Harvard University. He holds an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar and a recipient of the Loeb-Rhoades Fellowship for
